HISTORY OF THE CONCEPT
The concept was created to introduce a new and different amateur world event in a MatchPlay format that would allow more than the traditional 12-16 players to compete in a single championship and eliminate the knock out component after each match.
3-Matches every 18-Holes
MatchPlay is also normally played over 18 holes. The uniqueness of the World Amateur MatchPlay Championship is that every 6 holes is a match, so each player in a four-ball plays 3 matches on rotation over 18 holes.
TEAMS
Teams are made up of four members. Each will play 3 x 6-hole matches per day in a fourball against closely aligned or the same Handicap Index.
Each player plays simultaneously as a team and for their individual trophy
